Kingspan Year In Review - Looking Back on 2018

Kingspan blaze new trails

Year In Review

Kingspan had a great 2018

It’s hard to believe that 2019 is already here and another year is in the books. 2018 was a monumental year for Kingspan and we made a lot of progress on initiatives that reflect our values. As we take on 2019, I’d like to reflect on some of our biggest moments from 2018.

The Reign of QuadCore

Kingspan QuadCore Launch USA
In June 2018, Kingspan featured its most technologically-advanced metal panel insulation at the AIA conference in New York City. QuadCore Technology offers advanced thermal performance, resiliency, safety in the event of a fire and is a healthier option for occupants. It’s also cost-effective, which is a huge plus for builders.

QuadCore received great media coverage throughout the year and was featured in publications such as Design & Build with Metal, Architect Magazine, Metal Construction News, Retrofit Magazine, Building Enclosure, Net Zero Buildings and more.

2018 also saw our BENCHMARK Designwall 4000 series of panels come standard with QuadCore technology.

New Initiatives

Climate change was a huge subject in 2018 and will continue to be an important topic of conversation in the coming years. Sustainability is extremely important to us here at Kingspan and we committed to change by joining the Science Based Targets Initiative and the Paris Solutions Campaign.

Kingspan Group joined over 370 companies across the world in committing to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. SBTi provides companies with a clearly defined pathway to future-proof business growth by specifying how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Kingspan also became a founding member of the International Living Future Institute’s Paris Solutions Campaign in 2018. The focus of Paris Solutions is on far-reaching, verified, assertive action to ensure words are backed by real results in the form of a more sustainable society, environment and culture.

An Award-Winning Year

Kingspan was recognized numerous times in 2018 for sustainability efforts and innovative products, earning awards from Smart Energy Decisions, Architectural Products and Architectural Record.

In February, Kingspan Insulated Panels was named a winner in the Smart Energy Decisions Innovation Awards. We took the top prize in the commercial energy efficiency technology category for our Journey to Net Zero Energy project, where we expect to be a Net Zero Energy company by the year 2020.

In November, Kingspan Insulated Panels was named a winner in the Architectural Products 2018 Product Innovation Awards. The company won an Industry Leader Award for our commitment to sustainability, transparency and resiliency. We also won a Product Innovation Award for QuadCore technology.

In addition, QuadCore technology won a 2018 Record Products of the Year Award from Architectural Record. QuadCore won in in the Best Building Envelope Products category.

Progress toward Net Zero 2020

Net Zero 2020 has been a major goal for Kingspan and with 2020 only a year away, we’re happy to say that we’re on track with our progress.

In June 2018, Kingspan announced that it was incorporating green natural gas at all of its business entities in North America. To do this, Kingspan collaborated with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, to utilize the company’s green natural gas.

As part of its journey to achieve NZE status, Kingspan Group has seen a 77% reduction in carbon intensity across its operations and is benefitting from 34.5 GWh of energy generated on its own sites

Overall, 2018 was full of growth, new experiences and steadily reaching our goals, and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish in 2019.
