Celebrating Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day, an annual event that highlights environmental issues and encourages civic action. The holiday has come a long way since its inception in 1970 – and this year’s celebration, among numerous recent reports on the impact of climate change and rising greenhouse gas levels, may be our most important yet.

At Kingspan, we celebrate each day like it’s Earth Day. Kingspan understands its impact on the environment and the responsibility the company has to operate as sustainably as possible throughout its practices and the supply chain. That’s why many Kingspan’s products have earned certifications that focus on improving environmental impact, occupant health, and more.

Kingspan Group is on target to achieve its goal of Net Zero Energy (NZE) status by 2020 across its 120+ plants around the globe.

Beyond this, there are many ways that we can take action this Earth Day (and every day) to honor our planet and preserve its future:

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Global change begins with each of us. We can all incorporate the three R’s and create more sustainable lives. There are plenty of ways to reduce waste in our daily lives: print on both sides of paper, avoid disposable utensils and buy durable goods that have a long warranty. To reuse items, donate to others and consider creative ways you can repurpose goods you would have thrown away. When recycling, research what items can be recycled and how to properly do so.

Use green energy

Renewable energy – wind, solar, etc. – are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies. Another benefit is that renewable energy will never run out, so we can use it for years to come.

Travel smarter

Transportation contributes to carbon emissions, no matter if you’re taking a car or an airplane. Instead, take public transit, bike or walk whenever possible – plus, it’s good for your health and your wallet.

We can all do something to address our climate challenge, and Earth Day is an excellent time to consider what else we can do. What action will you take this Earth Day?
