A RE100 Update

A new report from the RE100, a global corporate leadership initiative led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, shows a group of businesses that are actively reshaping the energy market through their global decisions and pushing forward toward a zero emissions economy.
The report, Approaching A Tipping Point, presents key progress of participating companies, including Kingspan, toward 100% renewable energy.
Kingspan is one of 122 world companies leading the effort to commit to using 100% renewable energy.  In 2014 Kingspan made the internal decision to join the RE100. We are committed to 100% renewable energy as we know that renewables are good for business, economy and society.
We are proud to report that we have achieved 69% of our goal of becoming a Net Zero Energy company by 2020 through our reduce, generate and purchase strategy.
The 122 companies participating in the RE100 initiative represent over 159TWh/yr of demand for renewable electricity. To put that number in perspective, it is more than enough electricity to power Malaysia, New York State or Poland. We are using this power for good as we actively reshape the energy market.
Another key finding of this report is that there is a growing trend toward direct sourcing of renewables – meaning that members of the initiative are directly growing renewable energy capacity. According to the report, “the proportion of renewable electricity being sourced via power purchase agreements grew fourfold in 2016, while the quantity of electricity sourced from onsite generation increased x15 (via supplier-owned projects) and x9 (via member-owned projects)”.
Renewables are becoming the norm for corporate electricity users. We’re proud to be leading the way toward 100% renewable energy and will remain forward thinking as we continue on our RE100 initiative journey.
