Inspired by Science and Technology

Experimentarium is a science centre for all of Denmark. Since 1991, it explored the world through science and technology together with millions of curious children and adults

The decision to use us for the project was driven by the high level of technical service and experience of our local team as well as the performance of the façade products. Kolja Nielsen, CEO and partner, CEBRA architecture comments ‘We have designed a building that reflects and supports Experimentarium’s exciting exhibits. Both the interior and exterior are strongly inspired by Science and Technology,

Better than ever

The building is located in the harbour of Copenhagen's Hellerup district and was formerly a bottling plant operated by the Tuborg beer company. The architectural project focused on expanding the centre's facilities, including doubling the available exhibition areas to accommodate new interactive exhibits.
The building also needed to 'connect' to the city so that glazing was incorporated into the main facade.

The brick base was preserved from the original building, providing a tangible representation of the connection between past and future, as well as between natural science and engineering.

The upper volumes are clad with lightweight aluminium panels featuring a perforated pattern based on the way air and fluid behave when they encounter resistance.
