B&M Retail Distribution

Discount retailer B&M Retail required a clean and modern space to supply its fast growing network of 400 stores across the UK.

The marine location of the project meant we used enhanced specification roof and wall cladding from Kingspan. Doing this has prolonged the design life of the building fabric to 30 years.

Technical Challenges

Kingspan’s technical team were given the challenge of creating a building envelope which would achieve design air permeability of 50mᶟ/m²/hr @50Pa. After close collaboration with DLA Architecture, a solution to this technological issue was achieved. The project was constructed in accordance with the strictest adherence to building component standards, aiding sustainability measures and creating a building which is ecological and efficient.

Energy Efficiency

A key specification for this project was to install panels which improved thermal performance beyond the basic building regulations requirement, so that the occupier would see future economies in heating design and energy consumption. The Curvewall, Micro-Rib and Trapezoidal Roof panels used all achieve a A+ BREEAM rating, aiding high levels of energy performance and creating a truly sustainable building.

Superior Architectural Solutions

Since energy efficiency was an important requirement for this project, the fabrications used to provide the final touches to the building envelope also needed to be energy efficient. Preformed corners provide smooth panel joints for a superior architectural finish, whilst maintaining insulation continuity with the wall panels.

Speedy Construction

The arrangement of panels in this building envelope enabled the project to be constructed in just 34 weeks. FK Facades, the installer contracted for the project, was able to quickly achieve a highly insulated building envelope by installing a range of products from Kingspan Insulated Panels. Trapezoidal Wall panels in Kingspan XL Forté, Goosewing Grey were combined with Mini-Micro and Curvewall wall panel systems in Kingspan Spectrum Jet, Grey Rock and Silver, which gave the building a clean and modern aesthetic. This was complemented by the use of Topdek roof deck, in IKO Armourplan Mid Grey PVC, for the roof.

Aesthetically Intriguing

Kingspan Trapezoidal DLTR offers excellent light transmission which can be up to 65% when new, with minimal deterioration over time. A high degree of colour fastness means the product will not discolour over a guaranteed period. On this building, Kingspan Trazezoidal DLTR is integrated between the Trazpezoidal roof panels, allowing a gush of natural daylight to pour into the building.

Future Proofed

Kingspan Top Hats are manufactured from high quality steel and aluminium to provide a long-lasting and durable solution for buildings. Kingspan’s technical team work closely with the sub contractor to ensure that all necessary vertical top hat cladding supports, closures, sealants and fillers are supplied and fitted as required.
