Is it time to scrap your old boiler and controls for a new, energy efficient boiler and heating controls?
Boiler & heating controls have improved tenfold in the past decade and are an excellent way to save energy & money. Older boiler (especially if not regularly serviced!) tend to be substantially less energy and cost efficient, and even the best boilers need replacing every approximately 15-20 years!
Controls have two primary functions; Maintaining comfort levels in your home and deciding when the heating system turns on/off. It is more environmentally friendly for your boiler to supply hot water to your home and a lot easier on your wallet than using an electrical immersion. With heating controls you can divide your property into zones. Each of these zones will have their own time clock control, allowing you to monitor and control the temperature of each individual room. This will allow you to heat to the rooms you want and not to waste fuel heating rooms which are unused.
There are 4 components to Heating Controls:
1. Radiator Thermostats: Thermostat Radiator Valves also known as TRV’s are installed on each individual radiator to monitor its temperature, helping to reduce waste from overheating rooms that are not in use.
2. Room Thermostats: By installing thermostats throughout your home you can easily control the optimum temperature of different rooms.
3. Time-clocks: Time clock allows you to pre-set your heating preferences for different times on different days (e.g. Weekends, holidays etc.) allowing your heating to run much more efficiently and saving you money on your heating bill.
4. Splitting and Controlling Different Zones: Splitting allows you to have hot water through your boiler without having to heat your radiators. Splitting and controlling your system into different elements, bedrooms and living rooms for example, allows you to heat different areas of your house individually where and when its needed making it very cost efficient.
