External wall insulation is the perfect solution for homeowners with solid walls who want to improve the energy efficiency and comfort of their property.
External Wall Insulation consists of 3 layers:
- Insulation – a layer of Kingspan insulation is fixed onto the outside face of the external wall of the property
- A bonding agent – this layer covers the external wall insulation with a special render which will add weather resistance. A mesh is then embedded in this render to add strength to the system
- External wall render – this is the finished coat of render which is available in a wide range of colours, textures and finished, or if preferred it can be matched to the existing decor of your home.
External wall insulation reduces the U-value of the walls. The U-value of a wall is the rate at which heat can flow through them, meaning the lower the U-value the better!
A lot of homeowners worry that the installation process will be disruptive or noisy for residents, but for the majority of the external wall insulation process there will be minimal disruption to residents indoors. This is a non-intrusive procedure and access to the inside of your property is not required, so there is no need to move out of the house or even move your furniture. Our installation team always take the best care and attention when carrying out the installation works on your property.
External wall insulation is suitable for solid wall, hollow block and cavity wall construction types. It is unsuitable for a timber frame structure which requires a ventilated and drained cavity; therefore external insulation would provide no thermal benefit. For timber frame properties, Kingspan Retrofit could offer an Internal Dry Lining solution.
Finally, it is important to note that if homeowners have wires/cables attached to their external walls that they ensure the ESB are notified prior to the installation, so that these wires can be adapted by the Electrical supply company.
