Doing a few small bits can really change the look of your home. You need to look at your house and see what you can change the will make difference to you and your family.

The kitchen is the heart of your home and it is also one of the most expensive replacement projects, so if your presses are in good enough condition but just look old and tired then there are a few things you can do to help it look renewed and refreshed. Paint the cabinet doors a new and bright colour and change out the door handles for something a bit more chic. Then stand back and admire your handy work. If you really want to be adventurous you could add some lights around cabinets. Handy self-adhesive led spotlights make this quick and easy.

If you are lucky enough to have bought a house with original or timber flooring it is easy to make then look like new, strip them back to the bare wood with a sander which can be easily hired and leave it like that or stain and varnish it again.

Upcycling has become very popular and it’s really helps reduce the cost of buying new furniture. Have a look around your home or indeed in second hand shops to find a piece that could benefit from upcycling simply sand back the piece and paint as you like, chalk paint is great fun and gives a very unique look. Change out handles or knobs for funky new ones and you have a piece you can be proud of.

Creating secret storage is a great way of reducing cluttering your home and making rooms feel bigger. Think about creating storage under the stairs, in seating, under your bed or even maximising existing storage by adding extra shelving. Really have a look around your home and see where you might be able to add extra storage.

Upgrading your windows can really help with fuel bills and road noise and add value to your home.
Getting in more natural light into your home can really make a huge difference try painting walls a brighter colour that will reflect the light back into the room, or why not position mirrors in strategic places these will make the area feel bigger and brighter.

Upgrading your insulation can really help in creating a warm cosy home and save your pocket on heating bills. There are a number of grants available for home energy upgrades through the SEAI.
