Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project with one of the key outputs of this been the digital description of every aspect of the built asset.
Digital technology is transforming the way construction and infrastructure projects are designed, delivered, and operated. Within the digital transformation of the construction industry BIM is seen as the future of design and long term facility management; driven by technology and clear processes, implementing change across the industry. BIM gives construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.
In December 2017, the National BIM Council published the first digital strategy for Ireland’s construction industry, titled a ‘Roadmap to Digital Transition’ which was to fulfil the governments national Construction 2020 strategy. This industry roadmap is an initiative that advocates more productive ways of working that improves competitiveness at home and overseas.
