Vizes Court 2

Vizes Court

Completed in January 2014 as part of Limerick City’s Regeneration Scheme, Vizes Court is a purpose built residential complex specifically designed for elderly occupants.

The Project

On 27th of September 2013, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning launched the Limerick Regeneration Framework Implementation Plan; a €253m 10 year plan aimed at tackling the challenges faced in Limericks Regeneration areas.

Completed in January 2014 as part of Limerick City’s Regeneration Scheme, Vizes Court is a purpose built residential complex specifically designed for elderly occupants.  Located in the heart of Limerick city centre, the €4.5m development spread over 3 stories has 29 individually accessed apartments and a central communal area. Each unit has its own under floor heating system and energy meters are installed in each apartment to allow for continuous system monitoring.

Reddy Architecture and Urbanism designed the project while the contractor overseeing the development of this residential complex was Clancy Construction. The Vizes Court development which is spread across a half-acre site is the second phase of Limerick City Councils construction of sheltered accommodation and is a big step towards low energy and low impact living.

There was a variety of Kingspan Insulation products used within the construction of this complex.
Both Kooltherm K18 and Kooltherm K8 premium performance rigid insulation were used in the wall build ups of this project to achieve a comfortable environment within the building. Kooltherm K8 is a partial fill cavity wall insulation which is made of non-deleterious materials and is faced with a low emissivity composite foil on both sides. In order to meet NHBC standards K8 requires a 50mm residual cavity.

Kooltherm K18 is an insulated plasterboard for mechanically fixed dry-lining and can be used in a number of applications including ceilings and walls. Both products are easy to handle and install.  Both products have thermal conductivities as low as 0.020W/m².K. Approximately 700m2 of Kooltherm K16 Insulated dry-lining plasterboard for plaster-dab / adhesive dry-lining was also used with in the project. The building was equipped with 60mm of Kooltherm K3 Floor insulation board which again also offers a thermal conductivity as low as 0.020W/m².K. K3 is suitable for suspended timber floors and solid and suspended concrete floors.

Kooltherm Cavity Closer was also used within the project; high performances insulates which was used to close cavities around openings in the masonry walls. This is an ideal product to ensure there is consistent insulation maintained around windows and door openings to alleviate thermal bridging
