The new Roscommon County Council Civic Offices are located in the heart of Roscommon Town. The project re-installs the original form of a 19th Century Courthouse. As this was a protected structure, this project consisted of removing a 1960’s annex, while also creating a car park for both staff and public use which also acts a pedestrian connection between the courthouse and Main Street. The €18 million Headquarters constructed by JSL Stewart is spread across an area of approximately 6500m² and houses high-quality county council offices, public spaces, facilities for elected members and new council cham
Designed by ABK Architects the building is highly efficient with a BREEAM ‘’Excellent’’ rating. The design of the new offices aims to work with the existing urban grain of the town of Roscommon in mind. Along with internal spaces, the project also consists of a number of external spaces including walled gardens, a forecourt and the remaining traces of a 19th Century Gaol.
A large number of Kingspan Insulation products have been used in the construction of the new Roscommon Civic Offices. Product including Kooltherm K12 70mm which is manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential and was used for the timber and steel framing systems in this building.
Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board was used over a 300m² area to insulate the structure behind the Rainscreen cladding systems. This premium performance rigid thermoset insulation has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.020 W/m.K and thus was an ideal solution for this project.
380m² of the Thermawall TW50 insulation was used as the partial fill cavity wall insulation throughout the building. This Kingspan Insulation product has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/m.K and in conjunction with its low emissivity foil facings, can significantly increases the thermal resistance of the cavity.
Thermafloor TF70 was used throughout on the solid concreate and on the suspended ground floors of the building, TF70 is ideal for both new build and refurbishment.
Aerofloor Platinum was used as floor insulation for this project and is expanded polystyrene, which can be supplied in various different grades. Roscommon Civic Offices used over 2300m² of the Aerofloor platinum High density (HD), which can be used as a stand floor insulation or void former where deep excavations require backfilling.
Aerowall Platinum was used as external insulation (EWI) for the masonry walls. This product is suitable for all proprietary acrylic or polymer render finishing systems and in total 3200m² of used on the Roscommon Civic Offices Development. Along with its recyclable properties, this insulation also helps to avoid thermal bridging at junctions, and is fast becoming the preferred option for upgrade works to both commercial and domestic properties.
