Work on the project began in 2013; RKD Architects designed the project while the main contractor on this impressive construction was Gilbane Building Company. The New centre is located in the Millennium Business Park, Naas, Co. Kildare on a 28 acre site.
The €100 million investment for the Kerry Group includes Kerry Ingredients & Flavours global and EMEA regional management, Kerry Global Business Services and support functions. Also included in the new facilities is a new Innovation and Technical Centre which includes customer application suites, research and development labs, culinary facilities, sensory services and a centre for customer production commercialization.
The new flagship global technology and customer innovation centre is a key point in the Group’s complete technologies, scientific research, and innovation and applications expertise across food, beverage and pharmaceutical markets allowing the company to really engage with strategic customers.
The project used a number of Kingspan Insulation Products in various areas to suit a number of solutions. Kooltherm K3 Floorboards were specified in a number of floor applications; this is a high performance rigid thermoset insulation board for use with solid concrete and suspended ground floors, which has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.020W/mK.
A wide variety of Kingspan products were used within the roofing applications, Styrozone N300 for Inverted Roofs, which is an ideal insulation for protected membrane flat roofs, this product has a thermal conductivity of 0.036 W/m.K (≤60 mm).
Sika Ireland were contacted by RKD architects with regard to the Roof specification. The main requirements were that the membrane had to be LEED Accredited and that because the building was being designed in BIM; they needed all roofing details to be in BIM Format. Sika were able to satisfy both requirements with their Sarnafil S328 18 EL in Solar Reflective Traffic White RAL 9016. This membrane satisfy the LEED requirement with SRI (Solar Reflective Index) of >78. In addition all Sarnafil constructions are available in BIM Format and can be downloaded from the national BIM Library in the UK via the Sika website or by contacting the Sika offices in Dublin. The membrane was mechanically fixed using the new Sarnaweld induction welding system in conjunction with Sika fixing partners SFS Intec.
Also installed on the project was Kingspan’s Thermaroof® TR26 LPC/FM product which has a thermal conductivity of 0.022W/m.K, this rigid thermoset polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board for flat roofs is waterproofed with mechanically fixed single-ply membranes.
