Our long term commitment

We have a long-term commitment to sustainability and responsibility: as a manufacturer and supplier of insulation products, as an employer, as a substantial landholder, and as a key member of its neighbouring communities. We aim to adopt and apply best practice sustainability principles by ensuring environmental, social and economic parameters are considered in an integrated way in the operation of its business. The manner in which we achieve this aim is detailed in our Sustainability and Responsibility Report.

BREEAM

There are two credits relevant to insulation products in BREEAM 2008 section Mat 6. One credit is available for the area and R–value weighted sum of the Green Guide ratings of the insulation products used in the roofs, walls, floors and services of a building. A+ rated products gain 3 times greater credit than B rated products and A rated products gain 2 times greater credit than B rated products.

The second credit is available if 80% by volume of the insulation products used in the roofs, walls, floors and services of a building are responsibly sourced. For Kingspan Insulation's products the requirement is that they and their principle polymer components are manufactured under a certified environmental management system.

Responsible Sourcing

Raw material supply chains can have an all too easy to ignore impact on a business' sustainability performance. The ultimate goal in this area is to source raw materials responsibly. The main whole building environmental assessment tools used in Ireland, BREEAM award credits for responsible sourcing of building materials other than insulation. BREEAM 2008 also awards credits for insulation products on the basis of the ISO 14001 certification status of a business and its immediate suppliers.


Kingspan Kooltherm® products produced at Kingspan Insulation's Pembridge and Castleblayney manufacturing facilities are manufactured under a management system certified to BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 / I.S. EN ISO 14001: 2004. The principle polymer components of the products are also manufactured under a management system certified to ISO 14001: 2004.

Kingspan ThermaTM is manufactured under a management system certified to BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 / I.S. EN ISO 14001: 2004.  The principle polymer components of the products are also manufactured under a management system certified to ISO 14001: 2004.

For BREEAM 2008, the requirement in Mat 6 for the responsible sourcing for Foam Insulation is ISO 14001 for our manufacturing process, and ISO 14001 for the “principle polymer component production” manufacturing processes. The “principle polymer component production” constitutes the manufacture of Polyol and MDI for Therma and Phenolic Resin for Kooltherm. We can supply ISO 14001 certificates for this should our customers require it.
