Kingspan has a long and diverse history which is deeply rooted in the communities in which our plants are developed.
In 1965 Kingspan started as a small engineering and contracting business. Eugene Murtagh began manufacturing agricultural trailers from behind his family’s bar, Murtagh’s in Kingscourt Co.Cavan. In 1966 Kingscourt Construction Group was formed.
It was sometime before the Insulation division was created; in fact it wasn’t until 1980 that Shelter Insulation Ltd purchased the technology to manufacture thermal insulation boards from a company in America. This was followed quickly by the commissioning of a rigid urethane insulation manufacturing line In Castleblayney Co. Monaghan.
In 1989 Kingscourt Construction Group was renamed Kingspan Group. In 1990 Shelter Insulation grows with the acquisition of Plaschem from BPD. In 1991 the acquisition of Coolag further strengthens the Insulation division.
In 1993 Shelter/Phaschem/Coolag are all renamed Kingspan Insulation and so the Insulation division is born.
In 1996 Kingspan Insulation acquires Kooltherm Insulation LTD this is the beginning of the production of our phenolic insulation boards.
In 2007 the new Kooltherm line is developed in Ireland. In 2009 Kingspan Insulation take on Koolduct pre-insulated ducting systems.
In 2011 Kingspan insulation acquired CRH Insulation Europe (CIE), consolidating its position as Europe’s number one high performance insulation, and providing a platform for longer-term growth in continental Europe. CRH included Irelands Aerobord and Springvale Insulation.
In 2012 Kingspan launch a new vacuum insulation panel (VIPs) under the Optim-R name.
