Case Study - Bedfordale House, Kingspan Insulation

Bedfordale House

Our insulation products have played a pivotal role in bringing a residential masterpiece to reality for the winner of the 2015 HIA Australian Home of the Year Award.

The Project

Winner of the 2015 HIA Australian Home of the Year Award, as well as the Australian Custom Built Home of the Year Award, newly constructed Bedfordale House is a Japanese-inspired masterpiece set in a semi-rural suburb of Perth.

The sleek and uncluttered lines of the construction and its interior design called for a subtle insulation treatment to maximize internal space and retain the simplicity and lightness of the walling.

Incredibly efficient insulation

Our solution was Kingspan Kooltherm K8 Cavity Board. This incredibly efficient, narrow-profile rigid insulation board occupy little lateral space, and they deliver higher thermal performance than any other commonly available cavity insulation product.

Our Bedfordale project introduced unique challenges. We didn’t have the conventional cavity area available – the design called for a brick surface interior and an exterior clad in 200 mm drybed basalt, quarried in Bunbury. Our stonemason hand selected 220 ton of stone to site. We needed to achieve the best possible thermal block in the limited cavity area. Kingspan Insulation worked closely with us to identify the best possible solution. - George Allingham, Gransden Construction

Achieving energy efficiency targets

Thanks to the minimalist characteristics of Kingspan Kooltherm K8 Cavity Board, Architect Suzanne Hunt and builder George Allingham were able to harness the full simplicity of the Japanese design and achieve energy efficiency targets without large wall cavities.
