Aldar Headquarters: An Abu Dhabi First

Aldar Properties PJSC, one of the largest property developers in the Middle East, commissioned their headquarters to be built in Al Raha, Abu Dhabi. Designed by MZ Architects, the building has a distinctive and innovative design: a semi spherical shape comprising two circular convex shaped façades linked by a narrow band of indented glazing.

The iconic structure was inspired by the symbolism of the circle and the sphere. The circle symbolises unity, stability and rationality. Unlike conventional four sided buildings, the circular building challenges the approach to construction of a typical structure.

The building, which is comprised of mostly office space, was developed in line with the US Green Building Council LEED rating system and achieved the lowest LEED Silver rating ever awarded by the US Green Building Council at the time of construction.

It is one of the first official eco-friendly buildings in Abu Dhabi and is made from a number of recyclable materials, a district cooling plant, efficient lighting and water systems and includes a Kingspan Insulation Ductwork solution.

The end result is a building which truly incorporates the properties of the circle: harmony without a beginning or end.
