Gliding along London’s skyline is the Emirates Air Line, a cable car link across the River Thames. The cable car which opened in June 2012 is operated by Transport for London and offers ‘a unique view of London’. Travelling from Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks, the cable car trip takes approximately ten minutes.
Announced in July 2010, construction of the 1-kilometre gondola line began in August 2011. A consortium of experts, headed by design and build contractor, Mace, was charged with delivering the Emirates Air Line within a tight schedule.
To ensure both comfort and spectacular views, Kingspan Insulation was used around the windows of each cable car. Kingspan’s Tapered Roofing Insulation solution was also used to ensure excellent thermal performance whilst preventing water from ponding on the roof. It also helped to achieve the clean lines required by Wilkinson Eyre Architects’ flat roofed design.
