The record breaking £34 million Waitrose distribution centre, IDI Gazeley's flagship Magna Park Milton Keynes development, is one of the largest distribution centres in England. Measuring the equivalent of 12 professional football pitches in size, the project was delivered in just 24 weeks, a world record for a building of this type.
The 940,000 square feet / 409,000 m² project comprises offices, together with goods in and out and significant external works on 44.7 acres of land. Logistics is a notoriously energy intensive sector, and the project combined innovation, technology, efficiency, sustainability and intelligent logistical thinking to set a new benchmark for the industry.
The roof was built to be covered by photovoltaic panels. The health and wellbeing of employees is supported by good lighting and ventilation, as well as reindeer moss growing on living walls inside the building.
Over 100,000m² of Kingspan Insulated Panels have been used to deliver this project. 72,000m² of Kingspan Trapezoidal Roof panels were used on the roof. 15% of the roof space was used for roof lights to maximise natural light in the building for energy efficiency and employee wellbeing. Kingspan Insulated Wall Panels were also used to create the building's walls in their distinctive brand colours.
