Kingspan Makes Climate “A” List for Second Year

A list

  • Only Irish listed company to be recognised on list
  • Products are saving customers six times Dublin’s annual energy consumption
  • Next week the Paris Climate Change Agreement comes into force

Kingspan has been named for a second successive year on The Climate “A” List by CDP, the international not-for-profit that measures environmental impact of thousands of companies around the world.

With Kingspan’s products helping its customers reduce their annual energy consumption by 188,600 million kilowatt hours– the equivalent to six times the annual energy consumption of Dublin City – Kingspan secured its position along with 193 other “A Listers” including Microsoft, Citigroup and Unilever. Kingspan is the only Irish listed company named on the list.

Kingspan has also confirmed it is on track to achieve its commitment of Net-Zero Energy use at its facilities by 2020, with renewable energy use across more than 90 manufacturing sites forecast to account for 57% of its consumption in 2016.

Gene Murtagh, CEO of Kingspan said:

“I am proud that for a second year we are the only Irish listed company to have made the CDP A List. The climate change agenda is core to Kingspan’s vision and will continue as an integral part of our approach to doing business as we expand our global footprint.

The building sector contributes around 30% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions and consumes up to 40% of all energy, which means our sector has a crucial role to play in helping countries hit the new targets set in last year’s Paris Agreement.”

CDP’s chief executive officer Paul Simpson said

“We congratulate the 193 A List companies that are leading the charge towards our low carbon future. Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalize on the many opportunities that await.”

Thousands of companies are independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology in a report compiled at the request of 827 investors who represent $100 trillion of assets under management. Only 9% of the companies who submit information are awarded position on the Climate A List, in recognition of their actions to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change in the past reporting year.

The Climate A List has been released the week before the Paris Climate Change Agreement on climate change negotiated last year comes into force on 4th November. To date 84 of the 190 parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change have ratified the agreement.

The Climate A List 2016, along with the climate scores of all companies publicly taking part in CDP’s climate change program this year, is available on CDP’s website www.cdp.net.

Kingspan’s insulation materials such as Kooltherm, Optim-R and Quadcore provide the most thermally efficient materials available in their respective market sectors.
