Kingspan Group acquires Ondura as part of expansion into Roofing and Waterproofing sector

27 September 2022 Kingspan Group
Welcome to Ondura
High-quality products and systems that drive down energy and carbon in buildings are good for our customers and good for the planet. As the global leader in high-performance insulation and advanced building envelope solutions, we at Kingspan are pleased to announce our continued expansion into the roofing and waterproofing sector through our acquisition of Ondura Group.
The acquisition of Ondura is another significant step in this journey, alongside the recently announced acquisition of Derbigum - the Belgian-based premium waterproofing membrane producer with its unique “No Roof to Waste” offering. Together, these businesses are a key step in the formation of a new Division for Kingspan: Kingspan Roofing & Waterproofing.
Ondura is a global business focusing on waterproofing solutions for buildings and will significantly enhance our portfolio of building envelope solutions. The acquisition is fully aligned with our long-stated strategy to develop a broader portfolio of roofing solutions.
The acquisition offers strong growth potential. The Ondura Group unites leading companies in their fields: Onduline (lightweight pitched roofing with high recycled content), CB (breathable membranes and roofing accessories) and alwitra (single ply flat roofing systems). The acquisition includes Ondura’s factories in France, Germany, Poland, Spain, the United States, Malaysia, Brazil and Turkey.  Ondura’s 5 main ranges for pitched and flat roofs represent a very attractive opportunity for complementary growth.
With 70% of sales driven by renovation and refurbishment markets, focusing particularly on the residential sector,  Ondura’s companies – Onduline, alwitra and CB – offer a variety of growth and cross-selling opportunities, and position both Kingspan and the newest business in our family to meet the urgent need to improve the energy performance of existing building stock.
Kingspan is especially excited to be working with Ondura’s existing management team, and the management teams of the three businesses within the Ondura Group, who will continue to manage and develop the group of businesses going forward. Over the past five years, these teams have successfully grown Ondura and its companies into a thriving international group, fostering a highly entrepreneurial and collaborative culture with a strong focus on growth and customer excellence. This team has built Ondura’s three brands – Onduline, alwitra and CB  - to market-leading positions and they will continue to operate as independent companies.
Patrick Destang, CEO of Ondura Group, said: “The acquisition by Kingspan is excellent news for all the employees of Ondura. Kingspan’s Planet Passionate ambition is very motivating and aligned with our own convictions: Our products have a high recyclable content, or allow reductions of energy consumption by reflecting light, or contribute to the performance of insulation in buildings. Both companies are truly international and operate in a decentralised manner, very close to the customers”.
Donal Curtin, Managing Director of Kingspan Roofing & Waterproofing Division, said: “Ondura’s management team, people and leading brands are a true asset to Kingspan, complementing our existing capabilities, products and solutions. As we continue to expand into the roofing and waterproofing categories, we look forward to growing together and sharing expertise. We’re very excited to welcome the broader Ondura team to the Kingspan family and look forward to supporting the continued success of the business.”
With 39% of global carbon emissions coming from the built environment, Kingspan is committed to making a real difference to this critical issue. Our sustainability initiatives are brought together under our ten-year Planet Passionate programme, which includes ambitious decarbonisation targets for our business aligned with the global effort to prevent a temperature rise of more than 1.50 on the planet this century. Through the ongoing Research & Development programme at our IKON global innovation centre, we are also focused on reducing embodied carbon and enhancing circularity in our products, which already offer leading performance in terms of enabling energy savings.
This combination of expertise, industry-leading solutions, passion for sustainability and ambition for growth positions this exciting new addition to the Kingspan family for business success and real action on climate change.
