Taking action in our local communities: 3 events backed by Kingspan

A powerful community spirit is essential in any environment, both at work and beyond. We are committed to ensuring that our company is firmly rooted in the communities and countries that we operate in.

Through sponsoring charity events, volunteering and partnerships with schools and colleges, we believe we can make a real difference in the communities where we live and work.

Below are just some of the events that we are proud to be part of:

Kingspan are once again proud sponsors of the annual Irish Heart Foundation Cycle Challenge this year, having been on board since the event started 10 years ago. This fundraiser involves a gruelling challenge of 560 kilometres over five days through the incredible landscapes of Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.

Alan Lawlor, Chief Financial Officer for Kingspan Insulation is currently in training for his 6th Cycle Challenge. Alan outlines the challenges of the event as well as the reason people take part year after year:

Training involves quite a personal commitment, from miserable weather in winter, through dawn rides in the hills during spring weekdays and weekend time away from the family for the longer spins. But the genuineness and dedication of the Irish Hospice Foundation people in action makes it all seem very minor.

Every year, around two-thirds of the cyclists from the previous year return, cyclists of all abilities, from 25 to 75 years old. And they do this because they each have their own stories and experiences, and because of the help they give to such a great cause. This event means a lot to them; there is great solidarity among the cyclists who are proud to help, and friendships are formed for life as so many have so much in common. It is a cause that is close to my heart so it resonated with me also, and that’s why I keep coming back.

This is the Irish Hospice Foundation’s biggest fundraising event and the money raised is in aid of the ‘nurses for nightcare’ programme, providing over 400 nights of free nursing care to affected families.

The Run Against Cancer is set to take place in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic for its third consecutive year. For every registration fee paid, Kingspan double the amount submitted and all funds raised are in aid of Hradec Králové University Hospital Oncology Clinic. So far over the last two years 700,000 Czech Koruna (€28,000) has been raised.

The 2018 event will take place on 7 October and registration is now open.

Hana Pospisilova, Marketing Manager for Kingspan Insulated Panels, had this to say about the success of the event over the last two years:

We were thrilled last year with the support we received, from suppliers to local companies all helping the cause. The goal of this event is to get the community together to have fun, run, walk and talk and most importantly to help those in need. We are very proud to have the event enter its third year.

The Arc Cancer Support 5K & 10K run took place on the 7 May 2018 in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. Kingspan were proud to sponsor the event this year.

ARC Cancer Support Centres has developed a range of services and therapies to help patients, family members, friends or caregivers support those who have been recently diagnosed with cancer, right through to those who are post-treatment.

The range of services include counselling, reflexology, mindfulness, stress management, relaxation courses, information talks and workshops.

These services are all offered free of charge so fundraising is crucial to the centres success.
