Following a year of fundraising activities, ranging from cake baking to gruelling physical challenges, Kingspan Insulation was proud to present a cheque for £6,628.34 to Arthritis Research UK, a charity which works to reduce the pain suffered by those living with arthritis.  It does this by funding high class research, educating health professionals and providing information to people with arthritis and to their carers.

During the annual sales conference, Kingspan Insulation’s divisional commercial director set the sales team a goal to raise as much money as possible for a chosen charity during 2014. Arthritis Research UK was nominated, and each team within the sales department was given a major challenge to complete.

The first challenge involved a team from Kingspan Roofing and Structural taking on ‘The Beast of Exmoor’, which involved cycling over 50 miles through the Devonshire countryside and climbing an overall elevation of 1 mile. Despite a few mechanical issues and some scrapes, 10 out of the 12 initial team members completed, finishing the ride in just over 8 hours.

The Kingspan TEK team took on the second challenge to face England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike. The team of 8 took the Great End route via the Corridor and climbed 3,209 feet above sea level, before descending via the great Gable and returning to Seathwaite. The 9.5 mile trek took just over 9 hours, with the team facing some precarious paths and formidable drops along the way.

The final challenge was completed by a group named the ‘Bonjour Bebe Cycling Club’, a group of cycling enthusiasts from Kingspan Insulation. Every year, the club takes Kingspan clients who share the club’s love for cycling on “Le Tour”, tackling a challenge in the name of charity. The clients donated to the cause, the group trained hard, and together they faced a ‘létape du tour’ through the Pyrenees, climbing the Col du Aspin (1,489 m) and The Tourmalet (2,115 m). Bonjour Bebe travelled over 175km in total, and completed the challenge in a little more than 8 hours.

Chris Guest, Divisional Commercial Director at Kingspan Insulation and member of the Bonjour Bebé Cycling Club, stated:

The team included some really serious and talented athletes and I know the day’s ride tested each and every one of them to the core.
He then continued that they were all ecstatic to have helped raise funds for this incredibly worthwhile cause and saluted those living and dealing with this debilitating condition.
