1. What is current your role?

I currently work as a Sustainability Manager, a role I’ve held for the past two years. Before this, I worked as a Technical Advisor with Kingspan through the graduate programme.

Within Kingspan you have plenty of opportunities to shape your own career. This allowed me to become involved in projects I’m passionate about.  You can progress by taking initiative in the areas that you are interested in. My current role didn’t even exist until I came along!

2. So why Kingspan?

I always wanted to work for a global company that is committed to reducing its impact on the environment.

I studied the Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Technology at Dublin Institute of Technology and a number of former students had gone on to work for Kingspan. I had heard great things about the company so I decided to take the leap!

I also loved the idea of working abroad once I graduated, and had heard from students that they had the opportunity to travel and work in different regions. I actually worked in Sydney over the Australasian region for my first two years with Kingspan.

3. What does a typical day usually look like?

Every day is different for me depending on where in the world I might be! I could be travelling to different sites for specific projects, having conference calls with different teams or attending seminars.

I’m constantly dealing with a mixture of people from a range of backgrounds in construction, from designers and installers, to end clients, public affairs professionals, and consultants.

On any given day, I could be assisting teams across our division, helping develop our design offering or working on projects and products.

4. What are some of the interesting projects that you've worked on?

Currently I’m working on life cycle assessments of our products which gives us insight into the environmental impact and helps us identify areas that we can make changes in and improve upon.

I’m finalising our next sustainability report and setting our divisional sustainability goals for the coming years. I’m also helping to formulate our response to the proposed changes to the Irish Building Regulations in terms of energy conservation in non-domestic buildings.

5. What is one of the most exciting elements of your job?

I am part of the Net Zero Energy team and last year we achieved our interim 50% target. We are currently on track to achieve our 2020 goal. I think it’s important that businesses do their part to address the potential adverse effects of climate change, and I’m excited to be part of this movement.
