"With the right people and the right motivation and environment you can achieve incredible things."
It started when Huure was acquired by Kingspan in 2018, but before that I had been with Huure for 25 years – since the company first began, which was also my first job. I have had the chance to grow professionally as the company has grown and joining the Kingspan Group has been the biggest step yet in my professional life. It was challenging, changing from the local company culture, but I embraced it as an opportunity – something completely new, and very worthwhile. That experience is still ongoing. A lot of my work has been product focused – I started working in quality and years later I managed the technical department before moving to working in operations.
When Huure was acquired by Kingspan I kept my role as operations manager but was also given the chance to be part of the executive management team. This gave me a more global view of the company and allowed me to gain new experience, including in areas such as finance and commercial.
It’s more a question of asking ‘what’s going to happen today?’. It’s the best thing about my role - identifying the opportunities and threats in any given situation, talking to lots of people, analysing the facts and proposing strategies. Once a decision has been made about how to proceed, a big part of my role is to organise resources and make sure that things happen. I work with groups of people from different parts of the business and try to create the right environment for them to work together well to deliver projects. This could be anything from KPI analysis to developing a new product or looking at marketing.
Pre-Covid I used to spend a lot of my time travelling between several factories. Now I do a lot if video calls to deliver the work. It’s more efficient, but I do miss the direct personal contact.
So much has happened in the last 3 years, and my goals have shifted considerably in that time. The part I am most proud of is the development of the local team since the acquisition, embedding the Kingspan culture within the existing team at the same time as growing with new people, integrating the two in a very short period of time and getting the whole thing to work well. We have been able to extend the product portfolio, build stronger relationships
with suppliers across Europe, bring new chemistry into the local engineering team, and set up a whole new technical department in just 2 years. With the right people and the right motivation and environment you can achieve incredible things.
The IKON project is impressive – it is a concrete representation of the way that Kingspan sees the future. The commitment to R&D means that we always have an eye on what happens next, to dream of new products that meet a need, and then make them happen. The new fire research centre is also impressive. The investment demonstrates the commitment of Group and how seriously Kingspan takes product development and performance. Finally, the Planet Passionate initiative – I am proud to be part of a business that doesn’t just sell products that support sustainability, but that integrates into its own processes and operations what it wants to sell into the market – the desire for and commitment to a more sustainable future.
