There is a growing appetite in the commercial sector for energy efficient, self-sustaining buildings. DLA Piper’s 2014 report revealed that the majority of the European real estate investors it surveyed considered market demand to be the single most important reason to deliver sustainable properties and strategies. In addition, 93% of respondents stated pursuing “green certification” as “quite” or “very important” when developing or investing in new property.

30 years ago, the BRE commenced work on what would become the BREEAM standard. The sustainable building standard has been regularly updated over the years to reflect our growing understanding of best practice in this area.
