Brynmor Jones Library

The University of Hull has opened a new chapter for its main library with a multi-million pound redevelopment, providing a light, modern facility which is supported with premium products such as The Kingspan KoolDuct System.

The Project

With over a million books, Brynmor Jones Library has been the centre point for the University’s students for almost 60 years. Sheppard Robson’s design helps to create new open learning zones and improves the flow between the original front section and the rear extension, constructed in 1969. To minimise disruption BAM completed the work in phases over a period of 18 months, allowing students to continue to access the library throughout.

The Kingspan KoolDuct System
Western Thermal
The Kingspan KoolDuct System was fabricated and installed directly to the six builders work riser walls within the library by Western Thermal Ltd. The product features a premium performance insulation core, allowing it to achieve very low thermal conductivities and can also be used to produce ductwork with minimal air-leakage, leading to considerable energy savings over time through reduced fan energy usage.
With the phased construction approach and relatively short overall deadline, it was essential that we were able to complete the installation on schedule. As The Kingspan KoolDuct System panels are pre-insulated we were able to skip the process of installing a traditional duct system and installed the boards direct to the riser walls, which was necessary due to the access requirements.
