KingBuild System (KBS)

The KingBuild System (KBS) provides a complete building structure and shell solution. Its light-gauge steel sections and components create transportable sub-assembly panels, made under Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) offsite factory conditions, for delivery and installation on site.
1. The KingBuild System can exceed a 25% reduction in overall build programme relative to traditional builds.
2. Rapid dry envelope - reduction in time to achieve a watertight structure over a traditional build allows access for follow on trades earlier and further reduces the build.
3. High dimensional accuracy of construction gives long term reliability, with near zero settlement thanks to KingBuild System’s connections.
4. Full system BRE accreditation – offering assured thermal, acoustic and fire performance.

Technical and Design Services

Our Technical and Design Services teams can support your build at multiple stages in the project, including: 
Estimating Our estimating department, working in conjunction with the design office can provide an initial review for suitability.
Project Inception and Pre Contract Our design and engineering office will review your architectural GAs and provide suitability guidance for the KBS system with regard to thermal, acoustic, fire performance and foundation line load schemes to support frame design.
Full Design Stage From design, using the architects and engineers data, our designers will produce full GA drawings and full calculations for the steel frame design of the project and submit them for client approval.
Production The fully approved model will be used to create CNC data for the rolling mills. The output sections will then be assembled into panels in our factory under controlled conditions, mitigating on-site working risk.

Kingspan KingBuild System Design Guide


  • The Structural Steel Framing System (SFS) is a component-supply, structural, stud façade system commonly used in two main methods of employ; Infill and Oversail. The system consists of C & U shaped studs and tracks, designed on a project specific basis to form the inner leaf of a façade.
  • Both systems are constructed on-site and must be designed and installed to BS5950 and BS8000. Liability forthe quality and accuracy of the installation rests with the Contractor and not Kingspan Steel Building Solutions.
  • SFS has been extensively used in construction projects covering residential flats, apartments, healthcare and educational developments, commercial developments, public buildings and industrial properties.

  • Risk to the client is reduced through predictability and speed of programme which in turn offers a quicker return on investment, as the KingBuild System can exceed a 25% reduction in overall build programme relative to traditional builds.
  • Rapid dry envelope - reduction in time to achieve a watertight structure over a traditional build allows access for follow on trades earlier and further reduces the build.

  • KingBuild System can incorporate a vast array of architectural treatments and features, including creation of open plan areas through hot rolled integration.
Sustainability
  • Structural efficiency – light gauge steel offers high strength to weight ratio and therefore reduces material usage over traditional materials.
  • Light steel joists and walls offer A and A+ ratings respectively in these areas in the BRE Green Guide (2007).
  • Recyclable - Kingframe steel sections are 100% recyclable and are made from high recycled content. This characteristic also reduces the waste produced by the overall project.
  • Lightweight - up to 50% reduction in overall weight of the structure relative to concrete frame reduces requirements for foundations.
  • Zero ODP and low GWP.
Off-site Modern Method of Construction
  • Improved health and safety – work is carried out under safe, warm and high quality environments utilising ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems – equating to fewer men working at height for less time.
