Insulation4Education - Guidance on Thermal Comfort and Daylighting in the Learning Environment

Education
In our latest CPD, ‘Insulation4Education: Guidance on Thermal Comfort and Daylighting in the learning environment’ we look at how properly considering the requirements of an education building at the planning stage, and taking advantage of the benefits that high performance insulation materials can offer both in terms of thermal comfort and daylighting, it should be possible to create an environment which safeguards wellbeing, boosts productivity and reduces absenteeism whilst also limiting the running costs and environmental impact of the buildings.

By the end of this CPD you will:
  •  understand the requirements of Building Bulletin (BB) 101: Guidelines on ventilation, thermal comfort and indoor air quality in schools;
  • understand the comfort recommendations in schools and how to meet Building Regulations Part L;
  • understand the effects thermal comfort can have on both the learner and educator in a learning environment;
  • understand how to improve airtightness and reduce thermal bridging;
  • understand daylighting and the impacts on health, wellbeing and performance; and
  • understand insulation solutions to meet the thermal comfort and daylighting requirements within an education building.

Premium Performance Phenolic Insulation

ProductPhoto_TEK_02_UK.jpg
This CPD focuses on the benefits of phenolic insulation, specifically the Kingspan Kooltherm K100 Range, which has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.018 W/m2.K - the highest performing available rigid thermoset insulation. It looks at the different applications available and other design considerations, such as daylighting and internal space within a building.

By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand the science of thinner insulation;
  • be able to identify approved application for phenolic insulation; and
  • be able to identify the benefits of using phenolic insulation.

Fire & Facades in England

Fire and Facades CPD
This CPD will discuss what must be taken into account when designing both high and low rise buildings that are not described as single dwellings. It will cover the 2018 amendment to Part B of the Building Regulations for fire safety in England, and how this effects the compliance of differing insulation materials with regard to the building height, use and boundary.

It will also discuss the question of scale for testing. Is small scale testing suitable for cladding systems?

By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand the different routes to compliance for new buildings, under the 2018 amendment to Part B of the building regulations in England; and
  • understand the merits of large scale system testing as opposed to small scale material testing.

CIBSE Approved: Limiting the Effects of Overheating in Building Services Applications

Figure 3 Crop
Rising temperatures have highlighted issues with buildings overheating, and the contribution of building services to unwanted heat gains is coming under scrutiny.

Recent research from AECOM has suggested that the use of an enhanced specification of pipe insulation and insulated pipe supports on hot water and heating pipework can drastically reduce overheating in some buildings.

This CIBSE approved seminar examines the issues of overheating, including in void and corridor spaces, relating to building services insulation.The benefits of going a step further than the base Building Regulation requirements are considered, along with optimising the design and implementation of building services insulation systems.

The Real Value of Space

Real Value of Space header_02
The usable space within a building is a fundamental metric in understanding the valuation, thus the investment potential, of real estate. Property with greater internal floor area commands a higher rental return in addition to a higher overall financial value and could, therefore, give rise to a greater Return on Investment (ROI).

Discover the issues surrounding energy efficicency and financial savings in commercial and private domestic developments in this CPD on our latest research, 'The Real Value of Space in Commercial and Private Domestic Developments''.
