Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

We are delighted to offer a number of free CPD seminars for architects and specifiers covering a wide range of industry topics. Each lasts approximately one hour and can take place at your office.

Following the seminar, we will be happy discuss any projects you may be working on at the moment, offer general advice and arrange U-value calculations, condensation risk and tapered roof designs to be supplied to you free of charge.

We currently offer the below CPD seminars, scroll down for more information on each topic:

  • Regulations and Standards for Energy Efficiency
  • Offsite Construction Solutions: Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
  • Premium Performance Phenolic Insulation
  • RIBA Accredited: Flat and Tapered Roofing
  • Fire & Facades
  • Vacuum Insulated Panels
  • Building Services Solutions - Pipe Insulation Systems
  • Insulation4Education: Guidance on Thermal Comfort and Daylighting in the Learning Environment

Offsite Construction Solutions: Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

ProductPhoto_TEK_02_UK.jpg
Learn how modular buildings that are prefabricated offsite, such as SIP systems, can provide an energy efficient solution through low U-values, excellent air tightness and low thermal bridging. This CPD covers the space saving capabilities, fire performance and many other aspects of SIP systems.
By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand the different SIP systems available;
  • be able to identify the different approved applications SIPs can be used in;
  • be able to identify the benefits of SIP systems; and
  • understand the environmental sustainability of SIP systems.

Premium Performance Phenolic Insulation

ProductPhoto_TEK_02_UK.jpg
This CPD focuses on the benefits of phenolic insulation, specifically the Kingspan Kooltherm K100 Range, which has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.018 W/m2.K - the highest performing available rigid thermoset insulation. It looks at the different applications available and other design considerations, such as daylighting and internal space within a building.
By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand the science of thinner insulation;
  • be able to identify approved application for phenolic insulation; and
  • be able to identify the benefits of using phenolic insulation.

RIBA Accredited: Flat and Tapered Roofing

Kingspan Tapered Roofing
This RIBA accredited CPD provides an overview of the different types of flat roof build ups including deck substrates, waterproofing systems and target U-values. It also looks at the ‘how, what and why’ of tapered roofing systems.
By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand different types of flat roof constructions;
  • know the regulations and codes of practise;
  • be able to determine the suitability of different methods of creating a fall; and
  • be able to identify features of tapered insulation in flat roof constructions.

Fire & Facades in England

Fire and Facades CPD
This CPD will discuss what must be taken into account when designing both high and low rise buildings that are not described as single dwellings. It will cover the 2018 amendment to Part B of the Building Regulations for fire safety in England, and how this effects the compliance of differing insulation materials with regard to the building height, use and boundary.

It will also discuss the question of scale for testing. Is small scale testing suitable for cladding systems?

By the end of this CPD you will:
  • understand the different routes to compliance for new buildings, under the 2018 amendment to Part B of the building regulations in England; and
  • understand the merits of large scale system testing as opposed to small scale material testing.

Insulation4Education: Guidance on Thermal Comfort and Daylighting in the Learning Environment

Education
In our latest CPD, ‘Insulation4Education: Guidance on Thermal Comfort and Daylighting in the learning environment’ we look at how properly considering the requirements of an education building at the planning stage, and taking advantage of the benefits that high performance insulation materials can offer both in terms of thermal comfort and daylighting, it should be possible to create an environment which safeguards wellbeing, boosts productivity and reduces absenteeism whilst also limiting the running costs and environmental impact of the buildings.

By the end of this CPD you will:
  •  understand the requirements of Building Bulletin (BB) 101: Guidelines on ventilation, thermal comfort and indoor air quality in schools;
  • understand the comfort recommendations in schools and how to meet Building Regulations Part L;
  • understand the effects thermal comfort can have on both the learner and educator in a learning environment;
  • understand how to improve airtightness and reduce thermal bridging;
  • understand daylighting and the impacts on health, wellbeing and performance; and
  • understand insulation solutions to meet the thermal comfort and daylighting requirements within an education building.
