What is a 'lambda'?

The lambda of a product is its thermal performance. The lower the lambda value, the more difficult it is for heat to pass through. Therefore thermal performance is improved and a reduced thickness of insulation is needed to achieve the desired U-value.

What is the lambda value of the Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range products?

The Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range products have a lambda value of just 0.018 W/m·K across all thicknesses. Here are the thicknesses required for commonly used insulation materials to achieve the same level of thermal perfomance:

Lambda (W/m·K) Type of insulation Thickness
0.018 Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range 55 mm
0.020 Kingspan Kooltherm 60 mm
0.022 PIR 65 mm
0.034 Rock mineral fibre 100 mm
Thickness of insulation to achieve an R-value of 2.857 m²·K/W.
Thicknesses are rounded up to the nearest 5 mm.

Kingspan Kooltherm K100 range products provide a level of performance that is unrivalled in the world of rigid thermoset insulation materials.
