Emirates Air Line

Our tapered roofing was installed on London's first cable car system spanning with River Thames.

The Project

A consortium of experts, headed by design and build contractor, Mace, was charged with delivering the Emirates Air Line within a tight schedule.

Over 1,000m² of our high performance Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM insulation was supplied for the project to form part of the terminal roofs.

The system was fitted in various thicknesses between 65 and 165mm to provide an intrinsic roof fall, which eliminated the need for structural falls in the design and prevented water-ponding. With excellent U-values as low as 0.25 W/m²·k, the system formed an important part of the project’s energy saving performance. 

The product helped to achieve the clean lines required by Wilkinson Eyre Architects’ flat roofed design, which manages to be simultaneously ultra-modern and retro in character.

The Emirates Air Line opened on 28th June 2012. It is operated by Transport for London and provides a quick, direct link between the Greenwich Peninsula, near the O2 and the Royal Victoria Docks, home to the ExCeL.
