Dished ends, or spinnings as they are also known, are used in the agricultural industry to manufacture slurry tankers and in the oil industry for overground and underground tanks. When Kingspan were contacted by Nugent Manufacturing Ltd who wanted to use dished ends to create garden ponds for the Chelsea Flower Show they jumped at the challenge.
Stephen Nugent (of Nugent Manufacturing Ltd) was really thinking outside the box when it came to designing elements of the garden and though Kingspan had never created dished ends to be used as ponds before, they were more happy to work with Stephen on his tight deadline.
Kingspan designed a set of dished ends that were manufactured, shot blasted and painted all within a three week turnaround time, allowing the garden to be assembled just in time for the show.
The Irish Sky Garden as it was named by creator Diarmuid Gavin, designer for Failte Ireland, was named the RHS People’s Choice show garden winner at the Chelsea Flower Show. The design of the garden itself was based on the landscape from the movie Avatar, but the focus on greenery and water reflect Ireland itself.
