QuadCore Coldstore Panels are designed specifically for use within the food and drink industry in applications such as food manufacture and temperature controlled storage

Reaction to Fire

QuadCore Coldstore Panels are classified B-s1,d0, when tested on the internal face of the product, according to the European Reaction to Fire classification system (Euroclasses) BS EN 13501–1: 2007+A1: 2009 under the certified name KS1100CS and BS EN 13501-1:2018 under the certified name KS1100 CS when using the following internal liners:
 
CLEANsafe 15, CLEANsafe 25, CLEANsafe 55, CLEANsafe120, AQUAsafe 55

Insurer approvals are large scale testing regimes that provide objective third-party testing, which is underpinned by quarterly, bi-annual and annual factory surveillance audits (depending on the region) to verify compliance. Insurer approvals are subject to panel thickness, cover width, orientation, method of assembly, steel coating and manufacturing facility. Environmental

Kingspan Insulated Panels produced in the UK are certified to BES 6001 (Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products) ‘Very Good’. QuadCore Insulated Panel systems have Environmental Product Declarations in accordance with the requirements of EN 15804:2012+A1: 2013 for 100mm thickness.
 

Coatings - External Weather Sheet

Kingspan XL Forté: Consists of a multi-layer organic coating, embossed with a traditional leather-grain finish.
 
Kingspan Spectrum: Consists of a coated semigloss finish with slight granular effect.

Coatings - Internal Liner Sheet

Kingspan CLEANsafe 15: The coating has been developed for use as the internal lining of insulated panels. Standard colour is “bright white” with an easily cleaned surface.
 
Kingspan CLEANsafe 25: The coating has been developed for use as the internal lining of insulated panels in chilled storage environments.
 
Kingspan CLEANsafe 55: The coating has been developed for use as the internal lining of insulated panels in humid and aggressive internal environments.
 
Kingspan CLEANsafe 120: The coating has been developed for use as the internal lining of insulated panels where a high level of cleanliness and hygiene is required, and the panels are to be cleaned down on a regular basis.
 
Kingspan AQUAsafe 55: The coating has been developed for use as the internal lining of insulated panels for swimming pools and other high humidity internal environments.

Air Tightness

QuadCore Coldstore Panels joints achieve an air tightness of 0.02m3/hr/m at 50Pa in accordance with BS EN 14509 with joint sealed using gun grade sealant.
 
An air leakage rate from a completed building of 0.5m3/hr/m2 at 50Pa or less can be achieved.

Cold storage by definition is a temperature-controlled environment held at between -40ºC to 0ºC, used for the preservation and long term storage of perishable products in order to maintain their quality and nutritional value. Many of today's perishable products are quick frozen (ultra rapid freezing to very low temperatures of -30ºC to -40ºC) and then stored at -18ºC (unless specific products require different temperatures). Examples of various air-based cold environments include: Blast freezers; Carton / box freezers; Tunnel freezers; Fluidised (individual quick freezing); Spiral freezers; Deep freezers.


Chilled storage by definition is a temperature-controlled environment used for the short term storage of perishable products held at temperatures of 0ºC to +5ºC in order to maintain their quality and safety. Schedule 4 (Temperature Control Requirements) of the 2006 Food Hygiene Regulations required that in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, foods which are likely to support the growth of pathogenic micro-organisms or the formulation of toxins, be held at 0ºC to +5ºC unless specific products require different temperatures.

Chilled areas are also used to remove heat from products, to reduce the load on refrigeration systems. Examples of the various food types include:

  • Dairy products: Milk; ripened, soft or semi-hard cheeses; dairy-based desserts; mousses and products containing whipped cream;
  • Cooked products: Meat; fish; eggs; milk; cereals and vegetables;
  • Smoked or cured ready-to-eat meat or fish: Sliced hams; salamis and bacon;
  • Prepared ready-to-eat foods: Vegetables; salads and fruit salads;
  • Uncooked or partly-cooked pastry or dough products: Pizzas, sausage rolls and fresh pasta;
  • Raw materials (meat), ingredients, intermediate products and finished products.

Food processing by definition is a temperature-controlled and hygiene-safe environment used for the preparation, production and processing of food, with a temperature range of +10ºC to +18ºC. The principle legislations dealing with the design and construction of food premises are the Food Safety Act 1990, Food Hygiene Regulations 2006 and Good Manufacturing Practice.

The regulations contain specific requirements for the design and construction of premises where open food is stored or prepared. All food premises should consider the following main criteria:

  • Prevent the formation of condensation and mould growth;
  • Surfaces must have a smooth, impervious, non-absorbent, non-toxic and durable finish;
  • Surfaces must be capable of being repeatedly cleaned and disinfected without deterioration and shredding of particles;
  • All junctions between walls and floors, walls and ceilings and vertical wall angles should be finished to prevent the accumulation of dirt (the use of suitable coving being recommended);
  • All joint gaps to be sealed, to prevent the growth of disease-producing bacteria.
