City of York Council

Reimagined headquarters

York’s former railway station has been transformed to create modern office accommodation for City of York Council. The Council’s new ‘West Offices’ were opened officially in 2013.

Project details

12,500sq m of RG2 and CDec30 floor panels with a working load of 2kN were used in the construction by our approved installer, Northern Access Floors. Horizontal and vertical circulation challenges in the existing buildings were overcome by the introduction of open-plan floor panels. New circulation cores were created to make all areas accessible within the central void formerly occupied by the former railway concourse.

The building won the RIBA Yorkshire Award in 2014. It is an excellent example of sustainable regeneration, with a blend of old and new architecture.
