We are...

Climate change is the single most important issue facing the world today. To protect our planet, we need to prevent a 1.5° rise in global temperatures this century. To do this, carbon emissions need to be cut to net zero globally by 2050 – but we are currently on course to miss this goal substantially. We are also facing an unprecedented threat to our natural world, with 1 million species at risk in a planet where 2 billion tons of waste is generated annually.

What is Planet Passionate?

Planet Passionate is our new 10-year group wide global sustainability strategy aims to impact on three big global issues: climate change, circularity and protection of our natural world.

Introducing our Planet Passionate 2030 vision

Our Net Zero journey to date

In 2011, Kingspan committed globally to match 100% of our operational energy use through the use of renewable energy and the purchase of renewable energy certificates (to offset any remaining non-renewable energy use) by 2020.  We are now on track to achieve this goal through our three-step strategy of ‘Save More, Generate More and Buy More’. The reuse market in the UK is in its infancy so current options for mechanical downcycling or recycling into new products are the industries two most popular avenues as the circular economy develops in the construction sector. Kingspan has a well established site waste take back scheme for our packaging and is currently working on end of life solutions for our panels.

As part of Planet Passionate Kingspan has a circularity commitment to include upcycled PET materials in its core and to make sure that end of life options are available for our products.

The construction industry is the No.1 consumer of raw materials globally, meaning there are large opportunities to make a material difference to the environment by recirculating products through reuse and recycling methods.

At Kingspan waste is addressed by our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System as part of our continuous process to reduce, reuse and recycle. We have a zero waste to landfill target across the business as part of our 10 year sustainability strategy Planet Passionate.

During 2019 two out of the three sites Kingspan Insulated Panels have in the UK had complete landfill diversion.
