A new hospital recovery ward has been completed at the Public Hospital of Puerto Cortés in Honduras, as part of a project led by international humanitarian organisation GOAL, with support from Kingspan.

The 400 square metre, 12-bed recovery ward is connected to the existing public hospital and will help strengthen critical care capacity in a region serving an estimated 60,000 to 70,000 people. The facility is named in memory of Sayri Molina, a programme officer with GOAL Honduras who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The project began in 2020 in response to growing healthcare needs in the region, which has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 and extreme weather events, including hurricanes Eta and Iota. GOAL Honduras led the delivery of the project, working closely with local authorities and construction teams.

We supported the project by providing high-performance building solutions, including insulated wall and roof panels and cleanroom modular unit technology, to help deliver a safe and hygienic recovery environment. Our specialists also provided on-site technical support and training, sharing expertise with local builders to support correct installation and quality assurance.

The ward includes essential recovery facilities such as medical equipment, oxygen services, electrical systems with emergency backup power, air conditioning, water storage and distribution systems, and visitor amenities, all delivered in line with national healthcare standards.

Mike Stenson, Divisional Managing Director and Project Manager for this partnership, Kingspan Group, commented:

"When we partnered with GOAL in 2020, we set out to use our innovation, expertise and resources to deliver meaningful impact. Seeing the completion of the Sayri Molina ward is powerful testament to the dedication and hard work of the whole project team.”

“This facility will not only ease pressures on local services, but elevate care for local communities, strengthening healthcare delivery and helping to improve the wellbeing for those living in Puerto Cortés. We look forward to deepening our partnership with GOAL, as we continue to drive positive global change together.”

Our partnership with GOAL forms part of Planet Passionate Communities, our philanthropic initiative under the Planet Passionate sustainability programme.
