Transparency for Credibility

With a vast abundance of environmental, sustainability and “greenwashing” claims made in the marketplace, we know how hard it can be to decipher it all and to know what’s credible. Which is why we believe in transparency through independent third-party certification to support our products. Independent certification gives design and building professionals confidence that the products they use are right for the job, right for the environment and right for the health and well-being of the building occupants.

At Kingspan, we believe in our products, and we’re confident you will too. But don’t take our word for it. Take theirs.

EPDs

Certified_EPD_green_logo_NA
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive, internationally-harmonized report that documents the ways in which a product, throughout its lifecycle, affects the environment.
An EPD tells the life cycle story of a product in a single, written report, focusing on information about a product’s environmental impacts, such as global warming potential (GWP), smog creation, ozone depletion potential (ODP), and water pollution. An EPD can also include other product impacts such as land use changes, potential toxicity risks, as well as corporate environmental initiatives that are of particular interest to the discloser.

EPDs do not rank products, and the existence of an EPD for a product does not indicate that environmental performance criteria have been met. EPDs are a disclosure tool that helps purchasers better understand a product’s sustainable qualities and environmental repercussions so they can make more informed product selections.

Kingspan Insulated Panels North America created the first of its kind cradle to grave UL Certified ISO compliant EPD in September of 2011.  Since that time Kingspan has issued multiple revisions to document it journey of continues improvement.

GREENGUARD Gold

GREENGUARD_Logo_NA
GREENGUARD certification provides building professionals with certainty in an increasingly “green washed” marketplace.  The program screens over 360 volatile organic compounds (VOC) and total chemical emissions, making sure that certified products are not harmful to building occupants and do not adversely impact indoor environment quality (IEQ).  Plus, certification ensures compliance with California’s CDPH Standard Method Section 01350 and can provide credits to a number of building rating systems.  To achieve GREENGUARD certification we worked with UL Environment, who has over a century-long legacy of trust, to ensure the testing methodology is best in class.

An important part of Kingspan’s ethos has always been to lead the industry in innovation and third-party certification.  Pursuing the GREENGUARD stamp has been an initiative to show that we can provide products that are good for not just the built environment, but also the human environment.  We believe it will also help push the insulated metal panel industry forward as a whole by raising the bar.

Kingspan is the only metal panel manufacturer in North America to deliver GREENGUARD or GREENGUARD Gold Certified products.  We are excited to include GREENGUARD Gold Certification across all current PIR foam core product sets in addition to all products utilizing Kingspan’s innovative QuadCore foam technology.

Cradle to Cradle Material Health Silver

Material_Health_Silver_logo_NA
The Material Health Certificate uses the acclaimed material health assessment methodology of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard to provide manufacturers with a trusted way to communicate their work towards chemically optimized products. It supports growing industry and consumer interest in:

  • Knowing more about chemicals in products and supply chains
  • Avoiding chemicals of concern and shifting to inherently safer chemicals
  • Making a commitment to continual improvement towards greener chemistry
The requirements that must be met in order to achieve a Material Health Certificate are identical to the requirements at each level of the Material Health section of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard, in addition to the Continuous Improvement/Optimization requirement. See the Material Health Certificate Standard for complete details.

QuadCore Technology has achieved a Material Health Silver certification showing not to contain any Banned List chemicals above the relevant thresholds. Following an ABC-X assessment, it is also certified not to contain chemicals known or suspected to cause cancer, birth defects, genetic damage, or reproductive harm (CMRs).

Red List Free

Red_List_Free_logo_resized_NA
The Declare Red List represents “worst in class” materials, chemicals, and elements known to pose serious risks to human health and/or the greater ecosystem. The Red List identifies substances that the International Living Futures Institute (ILFI) believes should be phased out of production due to health and toxicity concerns. ILFI worked with Healthy Building Network and the Pharos Project to develop the Red List; new substances will be added to the Red List as new research warrants their inclusion.

The original Red List, launched in 2006, was significantly updated with the release of LBC 3.0 in May 2014. The update ensures that the Red List aligns with other authoritative hazard lists including the U.S. EPA Action Plan Published Lists; the REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) List; and Cradle to Cradle Banned Lists.

From this formulation disclosure, ToxServices was able to obtain 100% full disclosure. ToxServices has determined that none of the chemical ingredients present in the Kingspan QuadCore Insulated Panel are included on the ILFI Declare Red List at levels great than or equal to 100 ppm (0.01%). When QuadCore panels are ordered with Valspar’s Fluropon Pure coatings, the entire panel earns a Red List Free declaration; Kingspan has the only insulated metal panels in the world that earn that distinction.
