On 2 April 2020, NSW Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes issued the Environmental Planning and Assessment (COVID-19 Development Construction Work Days) Order.
From Tuesday 18 of May, the NSW Government will reinstate pre-COVID-19 measures that will no longer allow the Construction industry to work on weekends and public holidays.
Stokes believes that the Order is no longer required to protect the health, safety and welfare of workers and the public.
Much backlash has been received by industry leaders. There are concerns that there has not been enough of a transition period allowed and compliance will be difficult to manage in time.
There is also the concern of there being a delay in the delivery of newly built homes, CBD high-rise construction, commercial and retail projects. Read the official release here: https://www.mbansw.asn.au/media/industry-news/covid-19-extended-construction-site-hours-cease
