Bayswater Early Years Hub

The Bayswater Early Years Hub was strategically designed to minimize its impact on the environment through the careful selection of building materials.

The Project

Located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Bayswater Early Years Hub is a community centre designed to support the local community with minimal impact on the environment. The hub features early years learning spaces, maternal healthcare, allied health, as well as supporting services and community rooms. The buildings thoughtful design is a result of the successful collaboration between the client, key stakeholders, and the architects - K20 Architecture.

The utilization of natural light was an important passive design feature that helps contribute to the projects goal of achieving a 100+ year building lifecycle. Other passive design principles include solar arrays, batteries, rainwater harvesting, and careful consideration of the building materials used.

Commonly referred to as Sunflower, the building's curved layout mirrors 'a sunflower turning toward the sun'. This curved roof was realised through the use of the Kingspan KingZip Linea system. The KingZip Linea system offers architects the flexibility to fulfill complex roof designs and is supported by Kingspan's extensive technical team. The design is unique and dynamic with the ability to meet the potential future needs of the local community as their requirements change.
