Moolap Aged Care Facility

Out with the old, in with the aged.

The Project

Located in Moolap, east of Geelong, this stunning new aged care facility has been designed by renowned urban architects Jackson Teese. No quarter was given in the effort to build a facility with ultimate style and functionality, on time and on budget.

The building boasts a 108 bed capacity and ample features including an on-site hairdressing area, laundry areas, dining hall, kitchens, bathrooms, staff facilities, and more. Residents accommodated at the facility enjoy the comforts of home as well as the added security of 24 hour medical assistance and on-site low care and dementia units.

At its completion, the $20 million dollar project showcased 550 square meters of Kingspan’s K17 Insulated Plasterboard.

Kingspan’s on-site team projected the benefits offered by using Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard in place of traditional clip and channel, or stud and track methods, and contractor and architect both agreed that the ease and speed of the product's installation would provide huge labour savings to the project.

Once Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard was introduced to the project the benefits were quickly realised. Installation was completed at three and a half times the speed of the originally specified method, and the lightweight nature of the boards made for an easy install.

“Using Kingspan’s product instead of continuing with the original plan of clip and channel, or stud and track methods, meant the project tracked well ahead of schedule. We saved a significant amount purely by reducing the time the trades were onsite” explained the contractor Caldow Plastering.

Kingspan K17 Insulated Plasterboard is fixed directly to any masonry wall using an adhesive bonding method and mechanical fixing. First time users often voice concern about how to cater to the services that are often required to run behind the product.

“Being an aged care facility, there were a lot of services on the external walls that had to be accommodated. Chasing the Kooltherm K17 Insulated Plasterboard to house these services was a remarkably easy process and turned out to be no problem at all,” continued the contractor.

Kingspan K17 Insulated Plasterboard provides continuous insulation, reducing the need for cooling and heating and saving on energy costs. Residents of the aged care facility will be able to enjoy stable temperatures through extreme weather changes, allowing them to live comfortably regardless of the time of the year.
