Supply chain
Given the potentially large environmental impacts of many of our raw materials, it is important to manage the supply chain in the most sustainable way. We are engaging with our supply chain participants, from suppliers to logistics to distribution to achieve this, using our purchasing power to bring about lasting and positive change.
Kingspan has sought active engagement with a number of its key suppliers and has undertaken a series of supplier meetings and presentations. It is Kingspan’s policy, that where possible, all our principle suppliers should be accredited to BS EN ISO 9001/14001 and OHSAS 18001, which cover quality, health and safety and environmental management for several key facilities. Although, this is not currently compulsory for our suppliers, Kingspan has many long-standing relationships with them, and as such many are either working towards this accreditation, or have already achieved it. Kingspan endeavours to operate in partnership with our suppliers to help them work towards the far-reaching sustainability policies that Kingspan has set itself.
Kingspan also works with the supply chain on important issues such as site waste, trialling methods to dispose and recycle packaging more effectively such as launching a pallet return service to certain sites.
An internal team has been set up to develop an ethical procurement strategy, and an Environmental Purchasing Policy is currently being implemented. Kingspan is endeavouring to make every effort to replace all or part of the base chemicals with materials that are derived from either waste streams from other chemical or production processes, by utilising other recyclable waste, or from more sustainable or environmentally friendly sources.
